Our hammocks
THE HAMMOCK AS A WAY OF RESTING
Sleeping in a hammock is not a trend. It is a way of living.
At CIELO we make hammocks designed, above all, to sleep and truly rest. Each piece combines a weaving tradition passed down through generations with materials developed for different uses, from interiors to high-performance outdoor spaces.
We do not want to turn the hammock into a decorative object detached from its origin. We want to perfect what has made it extraordinary for centuries: lightness, ventilation, adaptability to the body, and its ability to transform everyday rest.
SLOW MADE · FAIR MADE · HANDMADE
What guides every piece
Rest — We design hammocks to be used, not only admired.
Craft — Every hammock is warped and woven by hand by artisans from Mayan communities.
Materials — We choose each thread according to the resting experience and the environment where the piece will live.
Fair trade — We have been members of the Fair Trade Federation since 2014 and work directly with our artisan network.
Quality — Every piece is inspected in Teabo before it leaves, checking weave, tension, finishing, dimensions and presentation.
A CIELO HAMMOCK
Tradition, ergonomics and constant evolution
For more than two decades we have worked around one question: how can we improve the hammock without losing what makes it unique?
The answer has been to develop our own materials, raise finishing standards, work directly with communities, and adapt the weave to new demands in interiors, hospitality and outdoor use.
The result is still a hammock: light, flexible, breathable and handmade — only refined to a level of precision and consistency suited to contemporary use.
A simple object. A great deal of human engineering.
FROM THREAD TO HAMMOCK
A process made slowly
- Material selection — We choose the thread according to use, feel and environment.
- Warping — The structure of thousands of threads that gives form to the hammock is prepared.
- Weaving at home — The piece is built by hand, stitch by stitch, on flexible schedules.
- Arms and finishing — Braids and terminations are formed to distribute the load.
- Inspection — We check the weave, tension, finishing and dimensions in Teabo.
- Identity — The hammock is labeled and prepared to travel to its new space.
MATERIALS
A different thread for every way of living the hammock
OSO® premium cotton — Our fine, soft cotton developed for an especially comfortable resting experience. It is the option we recommend for sleeping indoors.
DuraSun® — A high-performance fiber for outdoor use, developed to resist sun, humidity and intensive use while remaining pleasant to the touch. Used extensively in hospitality.
Traditional cotton — The most classic expression of the Yucatecan hammock: breathable, familiar and closely tied to everyday use.
Polypropylene — Lightweight, durable and practical for applications that require greater resistance to moisture and continuous use.
Choose according to how you will live it
DESIGN WITH IMPACT
More than 900 families are part of every thread
CIELO's production network involves more than 900 artisan families, approximately 90% women. Most of our collaborators live close to the centers where pieces are received and inspected.
Working from home makes it possible to combine weaving with family life. CIELO provides materials, coordination, quality control, sales and logistics, reducing risk for the people who make each piece.
TEABO AND COMMUNITIES
Closer to the people who weave
We work directly with warpers and weavers from communities including Teabo, Chumayel, Mayapán and Sabacché. Our Teabo center serves as a point for receiving, inspecting and packing pieces.
This model reduces intermediaries, strengthens our relationship with the communities, and gives us a clearer connection to the origin of each piece.
FAIR TRADE FEDERATION · MEMBERS SINCE 2014
Fair trade is not a label. It is the way we choose to work.
For CIELO, a well-made hammock begins long before the weaving. It begins with long-term relationships, direct payment, materials provided by us, and a supply chain designed to reduce intermediaries and risk for the people who make our pieces.
Being part of the Fair Trade Federation since 2014 expresses that commitment: growing without separating quality, craft and dignity.
Every piece carries the time, knowledge and work of the people who make it possible. For us, that is also part of what it means to make a good hammock.
QUALITY CONTROL
Every hammock passes through our hands before it reaches yours
In Teabo we inspect the weave, tension, arms, finishing, dimensions and presentation before each hammock leaves for its new home.
The goal is simple: for a completely handmade piece to preserve its artisanal character while maintaining a consistent standard of finish, strength and performance.
A LIVING HERITAGE
A hammock remains one of the simplest ways to rest better
Every CIELO hammock connects an everyday resting experience with knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
